Fake Stress
A Think Piece
Stress is a part of life. That’s a given. Should it be a part of school or work? I get it, you have to struggle with some things to be able to learn and grow. But I feel like a lot of the stress that is created, whether at school or work is not real. Let me explain what I mean. Stress is definitely a real thing. It can affect your mind and body. I’m not going to downplay the effects of stress. That’s not what we’re doing. But the stress that people create to seem either busy or make others feel stressed out is ridiculous. For example, I was working at a university, and graduation season was coming along. The woman who was in charge, the director of operations, was running around doing this and that. Mind you, the campus was small and the number of graduates had to be less than 1000. She was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Creating a frenzy for no reason. Then, when the day came, she was running around here and there like she was super busy and everything was just in disarray. But when you looked around, everything was running smoothly and there was literally nothing for us to do. Another example is when I was working in sports retail, the manager would often lose his shit yelling when things were not going exactly as planned. He’d rush about like crazy creating a false sense of urgency. And remember in university when those certain professors would try to create the hardest…
