Important Advice From A Hotel Guest
I wrote an article a while back about why careers are overrated and what to do instead. But lately, I’ve been feeling some kind of way. As the cost of living continues to skyrocket, I’ve had to shift my mindset. I left an entry-level career track job (one of them) over a year ago. In its place, I decided to work my side hustle, which was supposed to be my pay-down-debt job, giving me surplus money to live the sub-lavish life that I’ve always lived. Before quitting my mundane career job, I was in a pretty good place financially. Now, I’m in the trenches. Like many others my age, I’m struggling to find a decent-paying job that affords me a decent quality of life.
My side job was a good old hospitality job. Don’t judge me. But hotel jobs are plentiful and easy to get. The difference this time around is I’m using my time in the hotel to network and gain knowledge. I just had to change my perspective about the job. The amazing thing about working in the hospitality industry is you never know who you will encounter. Most recently, I met a super smart lady engineer and I came to admire her. I saw her and conversed with her in passing now and again. As a serial job hopper, who struggles to find meaning behind my jobs, I wanted to know the secret to longevity at work.
