My Introduction to Online Gaming
A Love-Hate Relationship With League of Legends
I’m a gamer. Or at least that is what I tell myself when I’m sitting for hours on end in front of my computer screen mad because I died once again. I play League of Legends, an online game created by Riot Games. You have a selection of champions and you battle 5v5 in a game that is similar to capture the flag. This is an over-simplified version of the game but you get the picture. The goal is to destroy the opposing team's “Nexus” and then you win the game. But if you don’t join a team of people you know, then you may end up outmatched. Throughout the duration of the game, you get tokens and build your champion with weapons and gear. Yada, yada.
I was introduced to the game by a guy friend. His whole thing was, “Do not download this game, you’ll hate yourself later.” And of course, I had to download it. Four years later I can definitely say I wish I had listened and never downloaded it. It’s not to say that I hate the game itself. I love it. I actually wish I was an elite gamer and could actually make money playing. Then it wouldn’t be a complete waste of time. But I digress. LOL is a lot of fun, but the culture of gaming is unhealthy. People will literally cuss you out over this game.
